Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva, has canceled his trip to Hanoi, Vietnam, to participate in the ASEAN Leaders Summit. Today, Abhisit is scheduled to attend the meeting with the leaders of the Red-Shirt, support groups for Thaksin Sinawatra.

The decision not to present at the ASEAN Summit did shortly after announcing the state of emergency. "Prime Minister has cancelled his trip to the ASEAN Leaders Summit to view and oversee the domestic situation," said Satit Wonghnongtaey, head of the prime minister's office.

Today, Abhisit announces state of emergency in Bangkok and five other provinces, because increasing the amount of mass action involving the Red-Shirt. At first, Abhisit will still going to Hanoi to attend the opening session and then returned to Bangkok on the same day. Friday, Abhisit will fly to Hanoi again to attend the second day of the ASEAN Summit. However, this scenario might be cancelled.

State of emergency in Bangkok and five other provinces give authority to the military to detain or take people without court orders after the protesters stormed the parliament complex on Wednesday. Military checkpoints built near Bangkok to stop the protesters into the city. This conditions at once increases the risk of confrontation on the outskirts of the city.

A Red-Shirt leader, Weng Tojirakarn, states will not stop the demonstration if the government did not heed their wishes. "We can not sit idly by and not act, this is our right," Weng said to Reuters.

He did not reject the idea of negotiating with the government, although in previous television discussions to no avail. "If Abhisit keep asking and proposing negotiations again, we're open to it, but before it can be done he should stop thinking of us as the enemy," said Weng.

Vice President Boediono will attend the High Level Conference on Nuclear Security in Washington DC, USA, 12-13 April 2010. "The presence of VP Boediono in this high-level conference is very important to convey Indonesia's outlook about nuclear problem," said VP spokesman, Yopie Hidayat, in the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta.

Corazon "Cory" Aquino, former president of the Philippines, died in hospital, after some treatment of disease due to cancer suffered over the last year. Corazon Aquino who was the first woman president of the Philippines and the icon of democracy in the era died in the age of 76 years.

Her son Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III read the statement at about 5 am. to the Filipino people:

"Our mother peacefully passed away at 3:18 a.m., August 1, 2009, of cardio-respiratory arrest." he said at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) in Manila, where the deceased received treatment since some time ago.

"She would have wanted to thank each and every one of you for all the prayers and your continued love and support. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also paid tribute to late Cory Aquino, and said that the Aquinos especially Cory had "helped bring democracy back to the Philippines after many years of authoritarian rule with a faith in her country and its people that never wavered".

Italian newspapers and magazines publishing voice recording between Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and a call girl. La Repubblica newspaper and L'espresso magazine, said the recording posted on their sites are voices of Berlusconi and Patrizia D'Addario, the call girl.

United States President Barack Obama make a visit to Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Turkey is the first country with a Muslim majority population which Obama visited since he was a U.S. president in January ago.
