Changing Is Hard Work

As I was lying in bed this morning, contemplating whether I should get up and go to work or not, I had all these wonderful ideas for todays' post. By the time I got to work, however, the ideas had flown from my head to some distant location known only to them.

I can't see. I can't see. You lost your glasses.
Over the weekend, I lost my third pair of reading glasses. We were at a mall with my little nephews and niece at the time. I told them I lost my "old lady" glasses. So I searched for a store that sold the ready-made kind—I always wear this kind anyway. Why spend a fortune for prescription glasses that are going to do the same thing? I found a Sears that had them—so I bought two pairs. And I bought the "eyeglass leashes" that old ladies use.

When I was younger, I swore I would never use these. But after losing three pair—that's at least $60—they started to seem like a good idea. And, you know what? They are. It's funny. After you get to a certain age—you really don't care anymore. I wish I had known that when I was young. I guess we all would've like to have been clued in.

The diet's OK. The exercise is, well, . . . .
OK. So as for the diet, it's still going well. As for the exercise—at least I walked around a mall for a couple of hours over the weekend. And at least I got some walking in on Sunday, too. I'd love to get back to the gym. I need to get back to the gym. I will get back to the gym. I need I like. There's one I want to try out, but have been putting off.

What's the real reason?
Why? I'm not sure. Is it the money? A little bit—but I consider it money well spent for the most part. So that's not really it. Am I afraid I'll end up not going? Sort of. All in all, I think I'm just afraid. And that's what I'm trying to get past in my life in all areas—not just health and fitness. Why am I afraid of so many things? I wasn't when I was a kid.

What changed so much? I know people say that you mature when you get older and your priorities change. But do they really change—or do we just get complacent? Does life just become routine and then we think it's too hard to do anything else? It would take too much work to change? Do we think we're too old?

Maybe the real question is: Why can't I change? Do I believe all of the things I tell myself so I don't have to change because it would hard? And I don't want to do anything hard? (If you watch The Office this would be a good place to insert: "That's what she said.")

Anyway, those are my thoughts for the day.

My Dreams Reveal I'm Finding My Way

Last night I dreamed I was standing in the middle of some thick, weeded, overgrowth in a field. I was standing up on a stage—above the weeds. I could see some of my friends were standing several hundred yards away from me. I had no idea how I was going to get to where they were. I walked down off of the stage and, lo' and behold, there was a path that lead me all of the way out of the field—not part of the way, but all of the way. I walked into the light. I was surprised that it had been so easy. And I was ecstatic that I finally did it. That makes two dreams now where I can find my way out of a seemingly impossible situation.

I Have the Power
I have been practicing the methods in The Secret. I think that positive thinking has power—more power than I ever thought possible. What it is doing for me is giving me the power—not food or anything else I've been using to hold me back. And this time, I'm using a different approach. I'm not using desperation—I'm being open to possibilities. I'm thinking in positive terms about everything in my life—not just overeating. I'm also making the power mine and not giving my power away.

Because I've been thinking in these terms, I have been able to stay focused on losing weight. I've been able to stay focused on changing my life. Life has challenges. It's how you approach these challenges that makes them difficult or easy to overcome. Change your mind to change your choices. Then that apple pie doesn't have the importance I once gave it. It's just apple pie.

Sugar Goes Bye-Bye
I am still following the Belly Fat Cure plan. I believe that getting sugar out of my diet has also been one of the things that's lead me to this new place. I feel better, more energetic. And I feel like I can. That's it. Just that I can.

That One Thing

Everyday I think about what I need to do to lose weight. I try to eat right. I try to exercise. But I'm just a slug trying to be something else. But who hasn't felt like that? Just like everybody else who's in this boat with me, I'm looking for that one thing that will get me going like I was a year ago. Maybe I need some magic words.

I haven't been very good about keeping up with this blog. I have written a total of five articles. But like everything else, nothing seems to be working the way I hoped it would. That doesn't mean I'm giving up. It just means I need a different approach--I think that's what it means anyway.

Ok. I just wanted to stop in today so you guys would know I haven't disappeared. I will be back soon, too.

Waiting for Spring

The diet is still going well. I'm losing the weight I put on. Isn't that the way it goes?

I took Caleb to the vet this morning for "the Big Cut." He was shaking all the way to the vet's office—it was as if he knew. Poor guy. I will be nervous all day waiting for them to call and say he's OK.

I did not work out today. Tomorrow will be a gym day for sure. My friend is still calling me in the morning. I'm going to ask him to really lay on the guilt trip so I'll get my ass to the gym. I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready for spring. I want to get out walk. I can think of lots of things to do. Winter makes me want to hibernate. I hate it. I go to bed at unreasonably early hours—like 8 p.m. And I'd like to go to bed sooner. It makes me depressed and tired.

Well, I guess I should do some work.
