The National Police announced on Monday that a bank officer had been arrested for his alleged involvement in the recent string of ATM-related crimes in Bali.

“We arrested a bank officer at the management level two days ago. He is now being detained by the National Police,” said the National Police’s chief of detectives, Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi. “He is believed to be involved in the recent ATM fraud in Bali, [but] he is from a bank branch in Java. He helped the perpetrator get inside information.”

The bank officer is thought to be connected to suspects Fransiscus Januarta and Jemil, alias Alim, who are already in custody after they were arrested last week.

Ito added that the police had seized data-capturing devices, which pick up code information from ATM cards, from 33 BCA ATMs in Denpasar, Legian and Kuta.

As of Jan. 19, at least 236 BCA customers in Bali have reported losing a total of Rp 4.9 billion ($524,000), Ito said.

“The mastermind is a certain Henry from Surabaya who is still at large,” he said.

I have had a post on the tip of my fingers about my current highly ambivalent feelings about my life, identity and treatment but I can't seem to bring myself to write it.

In fact, I can't seem to bring myself to write much these days.

Maybe, later this week, as I recover from chemo.

Tomorrow is Groundhog Day. And the four year anniversary of my mastectomy.

The boy allegedly put the bee on to his classmate's cheek

An Indonesian schoolboy who was facing "serious abuse" charges for causing a bee to sting a classmate has been cleared by a court, reports say.

The boy, believed to be about nine years old, had allegedly placed the bee on a girl's face where it stung her.

Her parents reported him to the police who arrested him. He faced up to three years in prison.

But the judge said the case was about "normal children's naughtiness" and should never had reached court.

"It could have been settled amicably by the school and the parents involved," judge Sutriadi Yahya was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.

Mr Yahya said the boy had been acquitted of all charges and the court would "leave it to the parents to guide him".

The boy's mother, Any Sulistyowati, wept as the verdict was read out, said AFP.

"We're satisfied with the judge's decision. We will look after our child properly," she said.

The Jakarta Post said the girl's parents were angry that she was being teased at school and had wanted to make an example of the boy.

Children in Indonesia are tried as adults from the age of eight, but there are calls for the age to be raised to 12.

Juveniles who are given prison sentences usually serve their term in adult jails, contrary to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Indonesia is a signatory.

In 2009, a group of 10 boys who worked as shoe shiners were accused of gambling while waiting for customers in the capital, Jakarta.

Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - Students from various colleges in Central Aceh regency had collected funds and registered themselves as volunteers to help Central Aceh quake victims.

"We have directly visited Ketol subdistrict which had been worst-hit by the quake on Thursday (Jan 28)," one of the students said here Monday.

Besides going down to the quake-ravaged areas, the students also set up relief posts along important streets of Takengon, capital of Central Aceh.

The students also went to market places to collect funds for the quake victims.

Sukadana, East Lampung (ANTARA News) - Bird flu (Avian Influenza) has broken out in three subdistricts of East Lampung and is spreading to other parts of the region, local residents here said.

"Earlier, bird flu cases were mostly found only in three sub districts, namely Sukadana, Purbolinggo and Marga Tiga. Now , however, more sub districts are affected ," Saefudin (40), a local resident of Batanghari Nuban, East Lampung District, said here on Monday.

In addition to the three subdistricts, the bird flu virus or H5N1 had also spread to Batanghari Nuban and Labuhan Ratu subdistricts, East Lampung.

The H5N1 virus was first detected at Terbanggi Marga village, Sukadana sub district; Sukadana Baru village, Marga Tiga sub district; and Tambah Dadi village, Purbolinggo sub district. However, it has spread to other villages, such as Gunung Tiga village, Batanghari Nuban sub district; and Rajabasa Lama village, Labuhan Ratu sub district.

In January 2010, some 1,176 chickens had died of bird flu in East Lampung.

The East Lampung district authorities have conducted spraying of insecticides in and round caches where chickens had been found infected by the bird flu virus.

Despite the bird flu attack, there was no human case found in the district.

Purbalingga (ANTARA News) - Bird flu killed around 5,500 chickens in Purbalingga district, Central Java, during January 2010, a local official said.

Some 5,000 dead chickens were found at Tumanggal village and 500 at Pasunggingan village, both in Pengadegan sub district, Purbalingga, Hartono, head of the Purbalingga animal husbandry office, said here on Monday.

The local authorities have conducted measures such as insecticide spraying, rapid test and vaccination to prevent the bird flu or H5N1 virus from spreading to wider areas.

Last year, there were four cases of bird flu and around 6,000 chickens were killed by the virus
