Missing Merpati Twin Otter Found By SAR Team

Twin Otter Merpati Plane CrashSearch And Rescue (SAR) team in Papua, on Tuesday (4 / 8) morning, be on leave from the Sentani Airport, Jayapura, Papua, to Amisibil, Bintang Mountain, to make the evacuation of Merpati's twin otter plane that was missing since sunday. SAR team use the Kamov Helikopter be Piloted by Captain Kim Kwang Su and co-pilot Jung Yeon Woo, accompanied by Observer from the Indonesian Air Force at Jayapura.

Merpati twin otter plane with flight number MZ 9760 D was found in the area Amisibil which is about 3 miles from Oksibil, Bintang Mountains, Papua. According to pilot from Associated Mission Aviation (AMA), Erich Douglas, at around 06.25 WIT he has saw from a distance part of the body of Merpati plane that was fall in the region Amisibil.

"I saw it with my naked eye from a distance, the body of Merpati plane still intact. But that should be seen directly, and proved by the SAR team who will go down to the location of the fall of the plane," he said as quoted by ANTARA News.

Merpati Twin Otter aircraft was lost contact 15 minutes after the departed from Sentani, Jayapura, last sunday. The plane carried three crews, 11 adult passengers, and two babies.

Merpati Nusantara's Twin Otter that just lost contact in Papua yesterday carry 12 passengers and 3 crew member. Until this time there is no signs of the plane will be found yet. However several parties related to the incident still searching for the existence of the plane.

Merpati's Twin Otter Plane Missing At Jayapura, Papua

Merpati plane with flight from Jayapura to Oksibil lost contact with the tower. Until now has not known yet about the fate of crews and passengers of the plane.

"True, we lost contact with the Twin Otter aircraft is," said Merpati PR Sukandi to detikcom, Sunday (2/8/2009).

Plane carry 11 adults and two babies and was crewed by three people. Local media indicate that the internal flight took off at 10:15 and was due to arrive at 11:05, but that the aircraft lost contact at 10:28.

Flight's ACAS database lists the carrier as owning nine DHC-6s. Unconfirmed information indicates that the aircraft is a 30-year old airframe, serial number 626, registered PK-NVC.

Indonesian airlines, including Merpati Nusantara, remain largely blacklisted by the European Commission despite the lifting of restrictions on four carriers last month.

Department of Transportation Revokes Approved Capability Of Merpati

Merpati Nusantara AirlinesDepartment of Transportation / Departemen Perhubungan (abr: Dephub) revokes the approved capability of Merpati Maintenance Facility Strategic Bussiness Unit(MMF SBU) following a serious incident of Boeing 737-400 PK-MDO at Frans Kaisepo Airport in Biak, Papua, 6 July 2009.

Head of public communication center Dephub Bambang S. Ervan said the cancellation set through a letter from the Directorate General of Air Transportation to leaders of Merpati Nusantara Airlines No. AU/4604/DKUPPU/2725/2009 dated 7 July 2009.

"We also freeze the validity of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (AMEL) on the three SBU MMF qualified personnel," he said in a press release today. That policies, according to him, as prevention steps related to the serious incident of Boeing 737-400 PK-MDO that occurred on 6 July.

Revocation is devoted to the ability (approved capability) of MMF as the holder of Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) 145/9300, in the field of accessories for the inspection job, testing and repair for the brake and wheel of their Boeing 737-200/300/400/500 aircrafts.

"Until internal self assessment and internal evaluation which done by Merpati Nusantara received by Director General of Air Transportation," he said.

Specifically for the AMEL freezing pointed to AMEL No.3825 in the name of Nanang Budi Erwanto, AMEL No.3451 in the name of Sumitro puasa and AMEL No.3671 in the name of M. Adi Kusno Nurcahyo. "Until the internal self assessment and internal evaluation received by the Directorate General of Air Transportation."

Merpati is required to perform internal self assessment and internal evaluation of the overall system and procedures in order to find the root of the problems of the incident.

Furthermore, Bambang said, Directorate General of Air Transportation will conduct checks after receiving reports of internal self assessment and internal evaluation conducted by the Merpati before considering re-publishing AMO SBU MMF and AMEL of those personnels.
