Siti Fadilah recommends govt retain Jamkesmas

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Tue, 02/02/2010 8:37 PM

Presidential advisor Siti Fadilah Supari has recommended the government maintain the Jamkesmas health insurance scheme initiated during her term as health minister in 2004-2009.

“The government must manage health insurance, because if it is operated by a third party they will have to generate profits [and customers would potentially receive less benefits],” Siti said as quoted by Antara on Tuesday.

She proposed Jamkesmas avoid conventional health insurance practices because these could lead to certain restrictions.

Siti lamented the poor supervision of the existing Jamkesmas scheme that had caused many eligible patients to be neglected and forced to pay for treatment themselves. (nkn)
