At least 89 people have been admitted to Arjawinangun Hospital in Cirebon after consuming home-made liquor over the past four days, 17 of them died.

Medical service section head Bambang Sumardi said on Monday 12 of the patients died at the hospital while the rest died at other hospitals or at home.

He said based on medical examinations most of the patients suffered vital organ failures as a result of poisoning.

"The poison mostly damaged their livers and kidneys. Some of them were admitted to the hospital only two days after the poisoning, which is too late,” Bambang said as quoted by kompas.com.

He said he was not surprised by the deadly impact of the liquor as it was mixed with pure alcohol or anti-mosquito lotion.
